蔡伟凌同学赴印度实习导师心得——Ankit Garg

A Chinese undergraduate student studying at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)

Mr. Weiling Cai is an undergraduate student from Shantou university, China. He is my student in my research group, who impressed me by his research ability and passion. Based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Shantou university and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, I recommended him go to Indian institute of technology (IIT) to do research internship. I remember that his parents were hesitant before allowing him go to India, as Chinese students rarely have access to education and research opportunities in India. In addition, most Chinese students prefer to go to Britain, Europe and America for exchange. However, his curious research mindset and the fact that he got acquainted with some excellent Indian scholars pushed him to explore this unexplored India (in education).

During his six-month visit to IIT, he has developed an excellent research mindset by working with PhD students and talented professors. He has benefitted from the excellent engineering education in IIT. Because of this experience, he has published two papers in top SCI journals and obtained an offer with full scholarship for higher education at one of the world's top universities.

All of these is possible because his research at the Indian institute of technology (IIT) is interdisciplinary. It is very interesting that he is a student majoring in civil engineering, but he works and studies in the best biology/chemistry laboratories at IIT. He now makes more friends in biology than in civil engineering. Recently, the Indian Institute of technology (IIT) Guwahati was ranked in the top 20 in the nature index of chemistry/life sciences.

Special thanks to Shantou University and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati for supporting this successful exchange program. After the visit of Mr. Cai, another Chinese student (Mr. Peinan Chen) was recommended to do exchange programs in India. Looking forward seeing more academic exchange and cooperation between China and India.

一个中国本科生赴印度理工学院交流学习

—— 汕头大学教授，Ankit Garg博士

蔡伟凌先生是来自中国汕头大学的一名本科生，他是我项目组的学生。他的研究能力和热情让我十分印象深刻。因此，基于汕头大学和印度理工学院的合作协议，我推荐他赴往印度理工学院(IIT)做科研实习。我记得他的父母在让他去印度之前有些犹豫，因为中国学生很少可以获得去了解印度的教育和研究的机会。此外，大多数中国学生更喜欢去英国、欧洲和美国去做交换。然而，他的好奇的研究心态以及他结识了一些优秀的印度学者，让他决心去探索这个未开发的印度(在教育方面)。

在IIT的6个月的访问中，他通过与那些才华横溢的博士生和教授们合作，逐渐形成了一种优秀研究思维。因为这一经历，他发表了2篇顶级的SCI期刊，并申请到了世界顶尖大学的全奖研究生。

所有的这些都是可能的，因为他在印度理工学院 (IIT) 进行的是跨学科的研究。非常有趣的是，他是一名土木工程专业的学生，但他在印度理工学院的一个顶级的生物科学/化学实验室工作和学习。现在他在生物科学方面比在土木工程方面交了更多的朋友。最近，印度理工学院 (IIT) Guwahati在化学/生命科学的自然指数期刊上排名前20位。
