报告题目:Sharing the Experience of Building a Digital Twin

报告摘要:
The generic framework of a Digital Twin (DT) of a complex structure for monitoring its structural characteristics and predicting future performances is introduced. Building a reliable DT can be formidable as it is supposed to mimic critical aspects of the real structure accurately in almost real time. A calibrated high-fidelity model is needed for accuracy whereas to ensure fast computation, a validated surrogate or low fidelity model needs to be employed. As such, developments in surrogate modelling and machine learning techniques are currently adopted in most DT. Other important issues to consider are in the definition of the objective of the DT, constraints in types and placement of sensors, identification of key features and parameters and associated proven methodology. Within the academic environment, access to a real complex structure may not be possible and hence a highly reliable and practical DT that is built may not be convincing to potential asset owner. This lecture will share the experience of building a DT for practical structures highlighting the challenging issues and solutions.
报告人简介:
Dr QUEK SER TONG is currently Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was Keppel Chair Professor from 2018-2020, served as Head of CEE Department from 2015-2020, Vice Dean (Graduate Studies) of the Faculty of Engineering from 2010-2015, and Director of the Global Engineering Program from 2009-2012. Professor Quek graduated from Monash University with BEng(1st class) in 1979 and joined NUS in 1982. He obtained his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 1986 under the late Professor Alfredo Ang. He has published more than 200 journal papers covering topics such as structural health monitoring, systems identification and control, smart materials, reliability analysis, stochastic simulation and protective structures. He was awarded the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Visiting Fellowship (1988), IES KYD Gin prize for prestigious publication (1990), Defence Technology Prize for Research (2006), Singapore Public Administration Bronze Medal (2018) and the Institution of Engineers Singapore Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award (2024) among others.
