报告题目:Structural analysis of transmission towers

报告摘要:

Among civil structures, the design of transmission towers is particularly unique, as full-scale testing is mandated to verify the design. Conducting full-scale testing requires specialized testing stations and is both expensive and time-consuming. Furthermore, implementing and verifying findings from full-scale tests is not a quick process. A nonlinear analytical technique has been developed for predicting and simulating the ultimate structural behaviour of self-supporting and guyed transmission towers under static load conditions. This method considers both geometric and material nonlinear effects, treating the angle members in the tower as general asymmetrical thin-walled beam-column elements. Material nonlinearity for angle members is modelled based on lumped plasticity assumptions coupled with the concept of a yield surface in force space. This approach allows for the investigation of upgrading existing towers. One potential upgrading strategy involves introducing a series of diaphragm bracing systems at the mid-height of the slender diagonal members. Analytical studies have shown significant strength improvement predictions and have enabled recommendations on the most efficient diaphragm bracing types. An upgrade scheme that utilized the most efficient diaphragm bracing type was successfully implemented on existing towers. This scheme used less steel than replacing the existing diagonal bracings, was easier to implement in practice, and resulted in improved tower performance. The effectiveness of this upgrading scheme was further confirmed through experimental studies using a tower sub-structure assembly strengthened with various diaphragm bracings under different types of loading.

报告人简介:

Sritawat Kitipornchai,男,博士,澳大利亚工程院院士、欧洲科学与艺术学院院士,昆士兰大学土木工程系教授,广州大学双聘院士。2019、2020、2021及2022年连续四年入选Clarivate高被引学者(交叉学科领域)。曾担任《Engineering Structures》总主编(1993-2021),以及《International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics》《Advances in Structural Engineering》和《工程力学》等多个著名SCI与EI期刊的编委。曾任香港城市大学建筑与土木工程系主任、昆士兰大学土木工程系主任,并担任多个国际学术团体的首席负责人。此外,他还曾为香港、澳大利亚和新加坡的研究委员会担任评审专家。近年来,Kitipornchai教授专注于钢结构与组合结构、结构稳定性、结构非线性分析、木结构与高性能材料等领域的研究,已发表SCI高水平论文超过380篇,其中包括30余篇ESI高被引与热点论文,Web of Science数据库引用超过20000次,H指数为76。他已撰写超过10本教材及科研专著。曾主持多个由澳大利亚、新加坡及香港特区政府资助的大型科研项目,直接资助金额超过1.5亿元人民币。其研究成果多次被澳大利亚与欧洲的相关规范采纳,并多次荣获世界级学术奖项。
