Notice on the Application for the 2026 Fall Semester Exchange Student Program at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain

Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) is a partner university of Shantou University. The two universities signed a Letter of Intent for Cooperation in 2022. Since 2022, Shantou University has selected and sent a total of 29 students to study at UCM on exchange.

Founded in 1499, Universidad Complutense de Madrid is the top-ranked comprehensive public university in Spain and the largest university in the country with the most complete range of disciplines. It ranks 187th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. UCM has 48 research institutes and colleges, 21 affiliated teaching hospitals and clinics, and offers 304 officially recognized degrees.

Shantou University plans to select eligible undergraduate students to participate in a one-semester exchange program at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The relevant details are hereby notified as follows:

I. Target Applicants

Spanish major students of the Class of 2023 and 2024 from the College of Liberal Arts.

II. Basic Requirements

  1. Applicants must love their motherland, have no disciplinary or other violation records.

  2. Applicants must have excellent academic performance during their studies at Shantou University.

  3. Applicants must have a good command of Spanish.

  4. Applicants must possess good communication skills, the ability to live independently, and strong adaptability to new environments.

  5. Applicants must have sufficient financial means and obtain parental consent.

III. On-Campus Application Deadline and Method

Please register online before April 30, 2026 via the International Office website at: https://icd.stu.edu.cn/studentVisitDetail.aspx?theNo=437. Simultaneously, upload the following documents as attachments on the application page:

  • International Exchange Program On-Campus Application Form (for Record)

  • Current academic transcript

  • Certificate of enrollment

  • Proof of English proficiency (if available)

  • Spanish language proficiency certificate (if available)

  • Scanned copy of the passport information page

Failure to submit the required documents as instructed will be considered a withdrawal of the application.

IV. Selection Procedure

Applications will be reviewed by the College of Liberal Arts, followed by merit-based nomination and recommendation. The final admission decision rests with the host university (UCM). Selected students must complete the internal procedures for overseas visits and submit a course summary upon completion of the program.
