I. Introduction to Shantou University

Shantou University (STU), founded in 1981 with the approval of the State Council, is a comprehensive provincial university in Guangdong Province. It is a higher education institution jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province, and the Li Ka Shing Foundation. STU is a key discipline construction university under the Guangdong Provincial High-Level University Program, the first pilot demonstration university for higher education system and mechanism reform in Guangdong Province, a pilot university for deepening education evaluation reform in the new era in Guangdong Province, and a cultivation and creation unit for the "Demonstration University for Party Building Work" in Guangdong Province. It is also the only public university in the world that receives sustained support from a private foundation—the Li Ka Shing Foundation.

The university comprises 14 colleges: College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, College of Engineering, College of Law, Business School, Cheung Kong School of Art & Design, Cheung Kong School of Journalism & Communication, School of Medicine, School of Public Health, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (College of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology), College of Mathematics and Computer Science, International College, School of Marxism, and College of Continuing Education. STU enrolls doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students nationwide (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan regions). It also has a Graduate School and 11 residential colleges. Currently, there are 1,272 full-time faculty members and over 23,000 full-time enrolled students. The university has cultivated and delivered over 160,000 graduates to society.

STU currently has 1 national key discipline, 6 postdoctoral research stations, 6 first-level doctoral degree authorization disciplines, 52 second-level doctoral degree authorization disciplines, 20 first-level master's degree authorization disciplines, 137 second-level master's degree authorization disciplines, and 20 professional master's degree authorization disciplines. STU has 18 National First-Class Undergraduate Program construction sites. In the 2024 World University Rankings, STU ranked tied for 52nd among mainland Chinese universities. Twelve STU disciplines are among the top 1% of ESI global rankings. Multiple faculty members have been included in Stanford University's list of the World's Top 2% Scientists ("Annual Impact" category).

II. Introduction to the College of Engineering

The College of Engineering is primarily focused on undergraduate education while continuously improving its educational levels, forming a complete talent cultivation system from bachelor's to doctoral degrees. The college currently offers 9 undergraduate programs: Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Biomedical Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Architecture, and Intelligent Construction. It has a first-level doctoral program in Civil Engineering, a postdoctoral research station in Civil Engineering, three first-level master's programs (Mechanical Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering), and three professional master's programs (Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Information, Civil and Water Resources Engineering). The Civil Engineering program and the Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation program have received national engineering education accreditation. The college has three National First-Class Undergraduate Program construction sites (Electronic Information Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Civil Engineering) and two Guangdong Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program construction sites (Communication Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering). It also hosts the Guangdong Provincial Key Construction Discipline of Coastal Smart Cities.

The college boasts an international academic and management team with global perspectives, academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration. It currently has 133 full-time faculty members, 95.5% of whom hold doctoral degrees, and 48% of whom have overseas degrees, study, or work experience. Among them are 3 academicians, 2 recipients of national high-level talent programs, 16 recipients of provincial high-level talent programs, 8 scholars included in Stanford's annual "World's Top 2% Scientists" list, and 5 scholars included in Stanford's annual "Career-Long Impact" list.

2. Associate Professor: Maximum annual income of 380,000 RMB; housing subsidy of 350,000 RMB; research startup funding of 500,000 RMB (experimental science/engineering), 250,000 RMB (theoretical science/engineering), or 150,000 RMB (humanities/social sciences); relocation allowance of 50,000 RMB.

3. Lecturer (Ph.D.): Maximum annual income of 350,000 RMB; housing subsidy of 300,000 RMB; research startup funding of 250,000 RMB (experimental science/engineering), 150,000 RMB (theoretical science/engineering), or 100,000 RMB (humanities/social sciences); relocation allowance of 50,000 RMB.
