At the College of Engineering, Shantou University, there is a group of dedicated individuals: they root themselves in classrooms, refining every course; they devote themselves to laboratories, tackling technical challenges one after another; they mentor students, pursuing excellence in competitions and projects; they serve local industries, demonstrating responsibility and commitment through engineering practice.

I. Honor Leadership: Striving for Excellence in New Engineering Construction
In recent years, closely following national requirements for New Engineering construction and responding to the needs of regional industrial development, the College of Engineering has continuously advanced specialty construction, curriculum reform, practical education, and scientific research innovation. Recently, the college has achieved a series of accomplishments in teaching reform, research breakthroughs, platform construction, and talent cultivation, fully demonstrating the vigorous momentum of its high-quality development.

In 2025, the College of Engineering secured a total of

For the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC),
8 projects (including 2 transferred from other universities) were approved in 2025, with a total funding of
2.79 million yuan.

The number of ESI papers published by teachers and students has grown rapidly.

Shen Shuilong
Professor Shen Shuilong has long been engaged in research on intelligent development and maintenance of urban infrastructure. He has received 6 provincial and ministerial research awards, including:

2 Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (participant)
1 First Prize of the Guangdong Civil Engineering and Architectural Society
He has co-authored 6 books, published over 450 papers including more than 330 English SCI papers, and been granted over 150 patents, of which more than 50 have been transferred or applied, with 5 software copyrights.
He has been consecutively listed in Stanford’s Top 2% Scientists and Elsevier’s
Highly Cited Chinese Researchers. He was named among the best scientists in two fields by
Research.com and ranked among the
global top 10 highly cited scholars in geological resources and engineering by Tongzhouyun Global Highly Cited Scholars Database for consecutive years.
In 2023, he founded the international journal Smart Construction and Sustainable Cities under Springer Nature and serves as Editor-in-Chief. He is also Associate Editor of Geotextiles and Geomembranes (SCI) and serves on the editorial boards of several international journals and the Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering.
In 2024, Professor Shen Shuilong was elected Foreign Member of the Academia Europaea and Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Ling Siying
Professor Ling Siying is Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Secretary of the Departmental Party Branch, and Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education. He serves as:

Member of the 8th National Technical Committee on Gear Standardization (TC52)
Executive Director of the Mechanical Measurement Instrument Branch of the Chinese Instrumentation Society
His research focuses on ultra-precision manufacturing of master gear standards, high-end gear processing equipment, and measuring instruments.
He has presided over projects including the National Key R&D Program and NSFC grants totaling over
20 million yuan.
His team developed Grade 1 (highest national standard) master gears and involute artifacts, which are used as physical benchmarks for gear metrology by the National Institute of Metrology, China. His team is the only one in China capable of designing, manufacturing, and inspecting Grade 1 master gear artifacts.
In recent years, his team has mastered ultra-precision machining and measurement of Grade 1 gears, nano-precision shaft and guide rail lapping, and manufacturing of high-end equipment.

Xu Biao
Associate Professor Xu Biao is Deputy Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering. With over a decade of dedication to control theory and engineering, he upholds the mission of fostering virtue through education, embodies craftsmanship in rigorous scholarship, and empowers New Engineering through integration of research and teaching. He is an outstanding model for young faculty members.
He teaches over 500 class hours annually and contributes to electronic and computer engineering program development. He integrates ideological and political education and engineering ethics into teaching, cultivating students’ rigorous, realistic, and refined craftsmanship.
In research, he focuses on intelligent optimization and control, smart logistics, and machine learning. He has presided over
2 provincial projects (Guangdong Natural Science Foundation) and multiple municipal and horizontal projects with total funding exceeding
500,000 yuan.

He presided over university-level teaching reform projects and received the Second Prize of 2025 Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievement Award for supply-side reform in interdisciplinary talent training. Zhao Linshuang
Associate Professor Zhao Linshuang conducts research on load transfer in composite foundations and consolidation deformation of soft soils, with achievements in analytical algorithms, geotechnical mathematical modeling, and uncertainty analysis.
He has published over 30 SCI papers, including 19 as first/corresponding author (6 in CAS Zone 1, 12 in JCR Q1).
As an instructor for student innovation training, he encourages independent thinking and guides students to publish 3 academic papers and apply for 2 patents. His students have excelled in competitions such as the National University Student Structural Design Information Technology Competition.

Liu Qingxian
Dr. Liu Qingxian specializes in porous structure design and flexible pressure sensors. She has proposed innovative structural designs for ultra-sensitive, highly transparent, and wearable flexible sensors, expanding their application scenarios.

Associate Professor Xu Chunying has been with the College of Engineering for five years, focusing on sensor networks, monitoring technology, and intelligent signal processing, especially for smart sensing and marine engineering safety monitoring.
