2026 “Eaton Cup” Science and Technology Innovation Festival Hosted by the College of Engineering & Jingyi Academy Concludes Successfully

On May 26, the closing ceremony of the 2026 “Eaton Cup” Science and Technology Innovation Festival was held in the Lecture Hall of the Library at the Sangpu Mountain Campus. Organized by the College of Engineering and Jingyi Academy, the event systematically reviewed the achievements of this year’s festival, recognized outstanding teams and individuals, and held the 8th Lecture on Scientific Spirit and Practice as well as the 23rd Research Leadership Program. It fully demonstrated the college’s effectiveness in nurturing students through scientific and technological innovation.
Zheng Dawei, Vice President of R&D for Power Quality, Asia Pacific at Eaton Electrical Group, and Zhang Guihua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Engineering and Deputy Dean of Jingyi Academy, attended the event. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Yanni, counselor of the College of Engineering and Jingyi Academy.

Highlights Review

A video was played to revisit the memorable moments of the 2026 “Eaton Cup” Science and Technology Innovation Festival. Under the theme “Integrating Intelligence to Break Boundaries, Innovating Without Limits”, the festival launched in April and included special competitions, the Research Leadership Program lecture series, innovation training camps, and science and technology volunteer services, forming a multi-dimensional scientific and technological practice system.
A total of 12 special competitions were held, attracting over 600 participants. 9 lectures of the Research Leadership Program were organized, with more than 600 teachers and students attending. Science and technology volunteer services were delivered to primary and secondary schools and public venues in a “Three-Entry” campaign, drawing over 2,000 participants. The series of activities broadened students’ pathways for innovative practice and promoted exchanges and integration of industry, university and research.

Speech by College Leader: Innovate for the Future, Chase Dreams

Zhang Guihua congratulated the award-winning teams and thanked Eaton Group for its long-term support for the college’s science and innovation education. She noted that the competitions and practices not only tested professional abilities but also strengthened teamwork and problem-solving capacity.
Stressing the strategic importance of technological innovation to national development, she encouraged students to integrate their personal ideals into the pursuit of self-reliance and strength in science and technology. Zhang urged students to commit to serving the country through technology, hone practical skills, dare to make cross-disciplinary breakthroughs, and develop interdisciplinary innovative capabilities in emerging fields such as “AI+” and “medical-engineering integration”.

Expert Lecture: Insights into Frontiers, Empowering Innovation

The event also featured the 8th Lecture on Scientific Spirit and Practice and the 23rd Research Leadership Program. Zheng Dawei delivered a speech on Energy Technology Transformation in the Context of Artificial Intelligence. He shared cutting-edge trends including computing power growth in data centers and power architecture upgrading, analyzed new demands for energy supply driven by expanding computing power, and introduced key technologies such as DC power supply architecture and solid-state transformers. From an industrial perspective, he elaborated on development opportunities for related disciplines in the future energy system.
In the interactive session, students raised questions regarding AI error correction mechanisms, the relationship between computing power and energy costs, and practical project development using AI. Zheng responded from the perspectives of model training, computing support, power conversion efficiency and personal competency transformation. He advised students to focus on algorithm and system modeling abilities, enhance interdisciplinary integration, and seek innovative breakthroughs at the intersection of energy and artificial intelligence.

Conclusion

The 2026 “Eaton Cup” Science and Technology Innovation Festival showcased phased achievements of the College of Engineering and Jingyi Academy in science and technology innovation education.
Taking competitions as the carrier, lectures as guidance and practice as the path, the activities strengthened students’ engineering literacy and innovation awareness, deepened the “college-academy collaborative” education mechanism, and laid a solid foundation for cultivating engineering talents with patriotism and practical capabilities.
