On the afternoon of May 13, the Communist Youth League Committee of the College of Engineering, Shantou University, together with the League Committee of Jiexi County, held a “Wisdom Gathering in Jiexi, Innovation for the Future” Science and Technology Carnival at Jiexi No.1 Middle School. Yao Fen, leader of the STU “Double Hundred Action” Service Team stationed in Jiexi County, Zhang Kailiang, person in charge of the Youth League Committee of the College of Engineering, and full-time League cadre Wang Yanni attended the event.
Based on the undergraduate competition achievements of the 2026 “Eaton Cup” Science and Technology Innovation Festival hosted by the College of Engineering and Jingyi Academy, the event set up 12 themed booths covering biomedical innovation, intelligent manufacturing, structural engineering, fluid mechanics, interactive science popularization and other fields. It attracted more than 1,000 teachers and students, delivering an immersive, informative and fun technological feast that inspired enthusiasm for innovation.

At the “Biomedical Innovation for a Healthy Future” booth, students learned how medical-engineering interdisciplinary technologies safeguard health and viewed innovative works on intelligent rehabilitation and health monitoring.
At the “Intelligent Transportation, Robotic Pioneers” booth, precise and efficient demonstrations by intelligent robots vividly showed the strength of automation and intelligent control.
At the “3D Intelligent Manufacturing, Unlimited Creativity” booth, exquisite 3D‑printed works amazed visitors, letting them experience the magic of turning imagination into reality.
At the “Craftsmanship Stories, Engineering Images” booth, posters, comics and essays shared the dedication of engineering youth and promoted the spirit of science.
At the “Beauty of Structure, Wisdom of Architecture” booth, bamboo bridge models and three‑dimensional architectural works allowed students to appreciate the subtlety of structural mechanics and the elegance of architectural design through observation and touch.

“Unlimited Creativity, Co‑drawing the Long Scroll”: Students painted their visions of technology and future on a giant canvas.
“Stick Load‑bearing, Extreme Challenge”: Participants built load‑bearing structures with thin sticks, exploring structural design and challenging load limits.
“Kaleidoscope of Wonders, Infinite Visions”: Students made their own kaleidoscopes and experienced the magic of optics through colorful light patterns.
“Smart Q&A, Boundless Thinking”: Visitors wrote down scientific questions and shared insights, sparking intellectual collisions.
“Fluid Fun, Soft and Strong Transform”: Participants prepared non‑Newtonian fluids and experienced their unique “strong when facing force, weak when gentle” behavior.
“Magnetic Maze, Bead Guiding”: Using magnets to guide beads through a maze, students learned about magnetic fields and phenomena.
These engaging activities effectively stimulated interest in artificial intelligence and engineering disciplines, creating a vibrant atmosphere of scientific exploration.
This science and technology carnival is a vivid practice of higher education serving local basic education and extending science popularization resources to the grassroots. It provides middle school students with a close‑up experience of engineering technology and innovation, broadens their scientific horizons, and strongly supports the improvement of scientific literacy and the cultivation of innovative spirit among local young people.
