College of Engineering & Jingyi Academy Host Long March Spirit Themed Lecture: Carry Forward Red Heritage with Engineering Wisdom, March Forward on a New Journey


2026 marks the 90th anniversary of the triumph of the Red Army’s Long March. To thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on carrying forward the Long March spirit, and guide young people to carry on the red bloodline and strengthen their ideals and convictions, the College of Engineering and Jingyi Academy hosted the themed lecture event Carry Forward Red Heritage with Engineering Wisdom, March Forward on a New Journey at Waima Road No.4 Primary School on May 6 and at the East Coast Campus of Shantou University on May 8 respectively.

Nurturing Children with the Long March Spirit, Passing Down the Red Legacy Through Interactive Lectures

On May 6, the 18th General Youth League Branch of the Department of Electronic Engineering and the "Kids Deserve Safety" Task Force led volunteer lecturers to deliver presentations at Waima Road No.4 Primary School. Volunteers recounted historical stories of the Long March and interpreted the connotations of the Long March spirit.
Interactive sessions including relay ball passing, red poetry performance, bandage-bound marching and model assembly were arranged on site. Primary school students experienced the arduous Long March journey through hands-on activities and cultivated profound patriotism.

Retracing the Glorious Journey to Temper Original Aspirations, League Classes Empower Youth to Embark on a New Voyage

On May 8, the themed league class Retracing the Glorious Journey to Temper Original Aspirations was held in Classroom 205, Teaching Building Block E, Shantou University East Coast Campus, attracting more than 60 League members from the 18th General Youth League Branch of the Department of Electronic Engineering.
League cadres led participants to learn the contemporary value of the Long March spirit, and discussed how to integrate the Long March spirit into academic research, scientific practice and innovation with engineering characteristics, encouraging all to forge ahead by taking revolutionary predecessors as role models.
An outward-bound activity named "Retrace the Long March" was arranged. League members worked in groups to spread out a canvas printed with the Central Red Army’s Long March route map. A tennis ball representing Red Army soldiers was placed at Ruijin as the starting point. Participants adjusted the tilt of the canvas to steer the tennis ball past gaps and advance along the route. Through collaborative practice, League members gained a vivid understanding of the hardships of the Long March and deepened their patriotic sentiments.

Carry Forward the Red Bloodline, Young People Take on the Mission of the Times

This event organically integrated theoretical learning with practical experience. Through diverse entertaining and educational forms, it enabled the Long March spirit to take deep root in students’ hearts. Participants comprehended the essence of the Long March spirit and gathered striving strength through hands-on practice, inspiring them to inherit the red gene and shoulder the mission of the times.
