College of Engineering, Shantou University Holds Symposium with Tsingke Biotech

On the morning of April 20, a symposium between the College of Engineering, Shantou University and Tsingke Biotech Co., Ltd. was held in Meeting Room 412, West 4th Floor of the College of Engineering.
Present at the meeting were Liu Wenqiang, Director of the Human Resources Center of Tsingke Biotech, Luo Xuefeng, Head of the Guangzhou Branch, Hou Jinchen, Supervisor of Training and Corporate Culture; Lu Zhuobin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Engineering, Zhou Benqing and Lin Meiai from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, as well as Lin Zhanqiao and Wang Wan, teachers in charge of employment services. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on disciplinary construction, industry-university-research integration, and interdisciplinary talent cultivation, and jointly explored new models of connecting higher education with industrial demands under the background of New Engineering.
At the meeting, Lu Zhuobin introduced the development of Shantou University and its College of Engineering. The college boasts three first-level discipline master’s programs and postdoctoral research stations in mechanical engineering, information engineering, and biomedical engineering, with nearly 150 faculty members. Relying on the Ministry of Education’s intelligent manufacturing technology platform, it is advancing research in cutting-edge fields such as brain-computer interface and embodied intelligence. Since its establishment in 2018, the Department of Biomedical Engineering has adhered to bilingual teaching, and its graduates demonstrate strong competitiveness in international technical positions. Some graduates are able to independently undertake overseas technical training within one or two years of employment. Zhou Benqing supplemented the introduction of the department’s specialized directions, laboratory construction and student scale.
Liu Wenqiang shared the company’s views from three aspects: having been listed on the Entity List, the enterprise has achieved full-chain independent control and incubated multiple sub-brands, showing robust independent development capability; as basic operational posts are gradually replaced by standardized processes, the company is in urgent need of interdisciplinary talents with multidisciplinary knowledge and systematic thinking ability. To this end, it has launched a two-year management trainee program to cultivate future managers through job rotation, regular reports and executive mentoring, with about 70% of top talents to be cultivated internally; the enterprise hopes to bring real industrial scenarios into campuses, achieve precise alignment between teaching and industrial demands, and deepen university-enterprise cooperation.
Regarding talent echelon construction, Hou Jinchen further elaborated on three core competencies highly valued in the selection and cultivation of management trainees: resilience, namely the ability to work under pressure, required for long-term and multi-round assessment and screening; learning ability, which means candidates can integrate basic knowledge and translate it into valuable thinking and sharing; adaptability, as management trainees need to switch quickly among different posts, communicate effectively with leaders and colleagues, and sustain growth in new environments.
Lin Meiai introduced the department’s practices in cultivating students’ comprehensive abilities and international vision, including consistent English-only and bilingual teaching to enhance graduates’ employability. She expressed the hope of establishing closer ties with the enterprise and aligning curriculum design with actual industrial demands.
This exchange laid a foundation for follow-up cooperation in curriculum co-construction, establishment of practice bases and joint postgraduate training, marking a solid step for the College of Engineering, Shantou University in promoting industry-education integration and serving the high-quality development of regional manufacturing.
