Golden Academy | The Colorful World of Physics – Science and Technology Volunteer Service Enters Primary School

To popularize scientific knowledge, broaden the horizons of teenagers, improve their scientific and cultural literacy, ignite their enthusiasm for exploring the world of science, and foster a sound atmosphere of "respecting, loving, learning and applying science", the Postgraduate Party Branch of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Electronic Engineering of the College of Engineering visited Shantou Waimalu No.4 Primary School on December 20 to carry out a science and technology volunteer service activity themed The Rainbow-Colored World of Physics. Together with the pupils, they learned about the Bernoulli Effect, gravity and the surface tension of water, experienced the colorful world of physics up close, and enjoyed the fun brought by hands-on practice.

At the start of the activity, Zhao Yihan, the keynote speaker from the Party Branch, began with questions such as "What is physics? Is physics only confined to textbooks? Are there any physical phenomena in our daily lives? What color is physics in your eyes?" to guide the students to think actively. Afterwards, the speaker answered the questions raised earlier, and organized three sets of small experiments for the day, opening the colorful door to the world of physics together with the students.

The first experiment was the Levitating Balloon Ring. First, Zhao Yihan introduced the materials, steps and safety precautions required for the experiment to the students through pictures and texts. During the experiment, the students did it themselves and cooperated with each other. With the help of members of the Party groups of the branch, each team raced to complete the experiment one after another. Finally, Zhao Yihan explained to the students why the balloon could float, what the Bernoulli Effect is, and introduced other common flying phenomena that also rely on the Bernoulli Effect.

The second experiment was the Rainbow Waterfall Experiment. During the experiment, the students gave full play to their imagination of the beauty of the physical world, and created one beautiful "rainbow waterfall" after another. Zhao Yihan explained to the students what gravity is, and what common gravity-related phenomena exist around us.

The final experiment was the Colorful Long Dragon Experiment. During the experiment, members of the Party Branch distributed experimental materials to the students, who completed the experiment independently. Zhao Yihan introduced the principle of the experiment to the students, and explained what the surface tension of water is, as well as common daily phenomena that follow the principle of surface tension.

During the hands-on practice of the day, the students were proactive and full of curiosity about the colorful world of physics. They cooperated with each other in practice, experiencing and understanding science in person. Going forward, the Postgraduate Party Branch of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Electronic Engineering will continue to carry out science and technology volunteer service activities, guide teenagers to participate in scientific practice, and actively foster a sound atmosphere for teenagers to love and advocate science.
