Introduction to the College of Engineering
Guided by the development vision outlined in its 14th Five-Year Plan, the College of Engineering focuses on disciplinary development as its core objective. Adhering to the general principle of pursuing steady progress in teaching, scientific research, faculty recruitment, engineering education reform, and social services, the College is committed to promoting high-quality development and accelerating the establishment of a new development paradigm.
With undergraduate education as its foundation, the College continuously enhances its educational offerings and has established a comprehensive talent cultivation system covering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. Currently, the College offers eight undergraduate programs: Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Biomedical Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, and Architecture. It hosts a doctoral degree program in Civil Engineering (first-level discipline), three master's degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, and Civil Engineering (all first-level disciplines), as well as three professional master's degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Information, and Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. The Civil Engineering program and the Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation program have received national engineering education accreditation. Three programs—Electronic Information Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, and Civil Engineering—have been designated as National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. Two programs—Communication Engineering and Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering—have been designated as Guangdong Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. Additionally, the College hosts the Guangdong Provincial Key Discipline of Coastal Smart City.
The College boasts an international academic and management team characterized by global perspectives, academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration. It currently has 167 full-time faculty members, 90% of whom hold doctoral degrees, and 50% of whom have obtained degrees or have study/work experience overseas.
The College is equipped with excellent teaching facilities and abundant educational resources, with its teaching, research, and learning infrastructure built to international standards. It houses key laboratories at the provincial and ministerial levels, including the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing (Ministry of Education), the Key Laboratory of Structure and Wind Tunnel (Department of Education of Guangdong Province), and the Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Structural Safety and Monitoring. It also hosts the Modern Electrical and Electronic Experimental Teaching Center, a Guangdong Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Higher Education Institutions, and the Shantou Light Industry Equipment Research Institute, a key technological innovation platform for Guangdong Province's key industries. Furthermore, the College has established student internship and entrepreneurship practice bases in collaboration with numerous domestic and international enterprises, providing students with excellent practical platforms and opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. This enables students to receive comprehensive skills training while acquiring a solid foundation in systematic knowledge.
To cultivate engineers who meet international standards, the College regularly invites distinguished experts from both domestic and international arenas, hosts a series of signature events, and has established a well-developed system for students' extracurricular academic and technological innovation activities. Students have won numerous awards in competitions such as the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition. In recent years, the employment rate of the College's graduates has consistently remained above 95%. Graduates are primarily employed in high-tech enterprises, multinational corporations, universities, research institutions, as well as government agencies and public institutions in the Pearl River Delta region. Most alumni have become technical experts and leaders in various industries.
