Introduction to the Basic Information of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Digital Signal and Image Processing Techniques

Established in November 1995, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Digital Signal and Image Processing Techniques is based at Shantou University, with the Shantou Institute of Ultrasonic Instruments as a co-constructing partner. The Laboratory passed the acceptance inspection organized by its superior competent authority in November 1997. After 1998, the University established the Science and Technology Research and Development Center, under which the Laboratory has been managed as a distinct entity. From 2004 onward, leveraging its unique characteristics and strengths, and responding to the development trends in electronic information technology, the Laboratory realigned its research directions to integrate information science with electronic instrumentation, life sciences, and other applied disciplines, taking into account local economic characteristics and the development needs of Guangdong Province. Its current focus is on the research and development of new methodologies and technologies in signal processing, modern medical information processing, ultrasonic imaging technology, and intelligent information processing and control. The Laboratory occupies an area of over 900 square meters, is fully equipped with research facilities, and possesses a wide range of advanced, specialized instruments and equipment, providing excellent conditions for engineering research and development. The Laboratory has been incorporated into Shantou University's strategic plan for key disciplinary development and has since achieved rapid progress in all aspects.
