As Party Branch Secretary of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Zhou Benqing has always believed that "ideology is the soul of scientific research." He is not satisfied with mere theoretical study but creatively integrates Party building work deeply into students' values education. He often says that biomedical engineers should possess not only the "hard skills" to solve complex engineering problems but also the "red foundation" of giving back to society. Through this "silent" guidance, he not only lights a beacon for students in the complex academic jungle but also enables discipline competitions to achieve high-quality development driven by values, fully activating students' innovative DNA.

Learning Through Competition: Igniting the Spark of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Unlike traditional teaching methods, Zhou Benqing vigorously promotes the philosophy of "promoting teaching and learning through competition." In his view, knowledge from textbooks can only be truly absorbed by students when refined through real-world problems. Whenever students encounter technical bottlenecks during competition preparation, Zhou Benqing guides them to analyze the underlying logic layer by layer, transforming rigid theories into "weapons" for solving specific problems.

Driven by this mechanism, achievements came naturally. In 2023, he led students to win the Bronze Award in the Guangdong Provincial Division of the 9th China International "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition; in 2024, he guided a project to win the Third Prize in the Guangdong Provincial Division of the 9th National College Life Science Competition (Scientific Inquiry Category). In recent years, the College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program projects he has supervised have repeatedly received national-level funding. These breakthroughs in competitions are the tangible results of his tireless efforts working alongside students, repeatedly refining plans and obsessing over every detail.

Deep Research: Achieving Fruitful Results at the Intersection of Medicine and Engineering

For Zhou Benqing, research and teaching have never been separate. He has long been deeply engaged in the design of biomedical materials and tumor diagnosis and therapy applications, focusing on the construction of biomimetic photothermal immune materials and tumor treatment research.

With his solid academic foundation, Zhou Benqing has successively received the National Natural Science Foundation Young Scientists Program, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation Special Grant, and 3 Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation General Projects, with cumulative funding exceeding 3 million RMB. He has published over 30 SCI papers in international journals including Materials Today Bio (including 7 Chinese Academy of Sciences Category 1 Top journals) and holds 9 authorized national invention patents.

Despite these impressive "hard indicators," Zhou Benqing places greater value on their educational significance. He insists on bringing the latest research findings into the classroom as soon as possible, allowing even undergraduate students to genuinely touch the frontiers of life sciences and materials engineering, thereby significantly broadening their academic horizons.

Industry-Education Integration: Building a Collaborative Education Ecosystem

"True engineering education cannot be constructed solely on the blackboard," he believes. With funding exceeding 3 million RMB from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, the Department of Biomedical Engineering has established a biomedical materials laboratory equipped with cutting-edge facilities. With this platform, Zhou Benqing actively creates opportunities for undergraduate students, allowing them to gain hands-on experience throughout the entire experimental process from material synthesis to performance characterization.

From the blackboard to the podium, from the laboratory to the competition arena, Zhou Benqing uses the depth of research and the warmth of mentorship to build a healthy ecosystem of industry-education integration. He serves as a bridge in the field of biomedical engineering, quietly lifting up more young students and guiding them toward the vast stage of innovative practice.
