On the morning of April 19, 2026, the 2026 Academic Committee Meeting of the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing Technology, Ministry of Education, Shantou University was held at the Academic Exchange Center of Shantou University. The meeting was an important part of the series of events celebrating the 45th anniversary of Shantou University.
Academician Chai Tianyou, Director of the Laboratory Academic Committee, and Professors Wang Chengyong, Zhang Xianmin, Yang Shuanghua, Zhang Guojun and Lai Jianhuang, members of the committee, attended the meeting in person. Professors Ding Jinliang, Li Bin, Huanshui Zhang, Zheng Wenming and Hou Zengguang joined the meeting online. The experts present listened to the progress report delivered by Professor Hao Zhifeng, Director of the Laboratory, and had in-depth exchanges with university leaders and academic backbones of the laboratory on research directions, research achievements and future plans.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Shen Shuilong, Dean of the College of Engineering. Professor Huang Xiaochun, Director of the Research Management Office, delivered a welcome speech, extending sincere welcome and gratitude to the academicians and experts attending the meeting. She introduced the phased achievements and disciplinary development layout of Shantou University in building a high-level research university, pointing out that as a core scientific research and innovation platform of the university, the laboratory has achieved remarkable results in talent team development, key scientific research projects, industry-university-research collaborative innovation and other aspects in recent years, providing crucial support for the university’s disciplinary development and empowerment of regional industries. Director Huang Xiaochun emphasized that the laboratory is expected to further closely align with national major strategies and regional industrial development needs in the future, deepen interdisciplinary integration and industry-university-research collaborative innovation, and continuously produce high-quality achievements. Meanwhile, she earnestly requested experts to provide guidance for the laboratory’s development and offer more constructive suggestions, so as to help the laboratory achieve high-quality connotative development and elevate scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation to a new level.
The academic committee meeting was chaired by Academician Chai Tianyou, Director of the Academic Committee. Professor Hao Zhifeng, Director of the Laboratory, gave a detailed report to the attending experts on the laboratory’s progress in team building, scientific research, achievement transformation, talent cultivation, social services and open operation since the last round of evaluation. The report highlighted the landmark achievements of the laboratory in fields such as the research and development of smart medical devices, design for testability of integrated circuits, intelligent simulation and operation and maintenance of offshore wind turbines, and development of high-end equipment and flexible intelligent production lines, supported by national-level projects and major horizontal research projects. It also clarified the tasks and priorities for the next stage.
The committee members carefully reviewed the work report and held in-depth discussions. All agreed that the laboratory has kept pace with cutting-edge disciplinary developments in the field of intelligent manufacturing technology, actively served Guangdong’s strategy of "manufacturing as the pillar" and the industrial pattern of "three emerging industries, two distinctive industries, one major industry + N" in eastern Guangdong, and achieved remarkable construction results. The construction objectives and implementation paths proposed by the laboratory are clear and feasible, in line with the national 15th Five-Year Plan and the development direction of new quality productive forces, and are expected to yield major achievements. It was recommended that the laboratory further refine its cutting-edge research directions, strengthen support in policies, funding, venues, talent introduction and cultivation, strive for more influential landmark achievements in the future, better support the high-end, intelligent and green transformation of manufacturing in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and eastern Guangdong, and endeavor to build a world-class innovation source for intelligent manufacturing.
