Recently, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) released the list of Outstanding Organizing Units and Outstanding Events for the 2024 National Science Popularization Day activities. Our college’s "Yikexing" Science and Technology Volunteer Service Initiative was named an Outstanding Event of the 2024 National Science Popularization Day.
The 2024 National Science Popularization Day, themed Enhancing the Scientific Literacy of All People and Jointly Building a Strong Country in Science and Technology, is anchored in the goal of achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology. It carries forward the scientific spirit and the spirit of scientists, spreads scientific thinking, showcases the charm of science and technology, stimulates confidence in innovation, and fosters an innovation culture. The initiative aims to consolidate the mass foundation for scientific and technological innovation, improve the capacity of public services for science popularization, and contribute to the development of a strong country in science and technology.
The "Yikexing" Science and Technology Volunteer Service Initiative upholds technology empowerment and fulfills the mission of science popularization for the public. Aligned with the characteristics of engineering disciplines, it delivers customized science popularization content for different audience groups through its "Three Courses and One Exhibition" framework: the Technology Experience Course for the Elderly, the Fun Science and Technology Parent-Child Interactive Course, the Artificial Intelligence Popularization Course, and the Youth Science and Technology Achievement Exhibition.
Actively responding to the call of the Commando Action for the "100 Counties, 1000 Towns, 10000 Villages" High-Quality Development Project (the "100-1000-10000" Project) of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, the initiative focuses on serving the elderly and children, strengthens the joint development of schools, science and technology venues, and communities, and improves the supply of high-quality science popularization resources. By organizing Party member and Communist Youth League member teachers and students to participate in science and technology volunteer services, it brings science popularization into communities, campuses, and venues, carries forward the scientific spirit, spreads scientific thinking, popularizes scientific and technological knowledge, and promotes the high-quality development of science education, communication and practice.
Since being selected into the 2024 National College Student Science and Technology Volunteer Service Team, the "Yikexing" Science and Technology Volunteer Service Team has held 18 sessions of themed activities under the guidance of the University Youth League Committee and the College Youth League Committee. The activities have been covered twice by China Youth Volunteers and 19 times by platforms at or above the county and city level, with a total of 25,446 person-times of attention and more than 3,000 total participants. The team was awarded the University-level Outstanding Collective of the "100-1000-10000" Project Commando Action for Guangdong Young College Students, and the Youth League Committee of the College of Engineering was named the University-level Outstanding Organizing Unit.
