The Li Ka-shing foundation has actively supported the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Shantou University. The Foundation has enabled the Department to partner with the University of Michigan. In 2017, the University of Michigan ranked 28th in the U.S., 6th in undergraduate education, and 10th in Biomedical Engineering (2017 US News). The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Shantou University will incorporate many aspects of the Biomedical Engineering course curriculum from the University of Michigan. The Department will be supported by high quality teaching staff, including full-time teachers from the University of Michigan. It is the only Biomedical Engineering course in China that is conducted in English.
