Shantou University has recently established the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Department forms part of the strategic plan in new engineering education to speed up the development of this exciting engineering field and actively adapting and leading the new economy. Medical devices and life scienceindustries supported by biomedical engineering play an important part of the biomedical industry and are key development direction for our country.  

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Shantou University has benefited greatly from well-established engineering and medical disciplines which have produced outstanding results in both clinical education and scientific research. With the support of Li Ka-shing Foundation, Shantou University is actively cultivating new promising talents. By leveraging on international leading biomedical engineering curriculum from the University of Michigan and encouraging engagement in international joint projects, students are given space to imagine, discuss, practice and develop. Students are encouraged to learn and develop through trial and error and rapid iterations.  

Shantou University medical engineering aims to nurture talents who can combine engineering, computer technology and life science. This enables students not only to systematically master the professional knowledge and design capabilities of biomedical engineering, but also to possess worldwide vision and become leaders of future medical device and life science industry.
