Enlistees’ Testimonials
Zhang Zhihui, Civil Engineering, Class of 2022
As I am about to enter the military camp, I look back on my four years at Shantou University. From Captain of the National Flag Guard to Deputy Leader of the Red Star Navigation Group, every goose step and every flag-raising ceremony engraved the word “responsibility” deep in my heart. Guarding the national flag taught me loyalty and perseverance; experiences in Party affairs helped me understand that we must act uprightly in life and work. Now I shift from guarding the national flag to safeguarding our homeland. The post changes, yet my original aspiration remains unchanged. I will carry the firmness and integrity nurtured by my alma mater, head for places where the motherland needs me, honor my oath with youth and demonstrate commitment with passion!
Chen Jiazhen, Civil Engineering, Class of 2022
Military life features strict discipline and high-intensity training. From folding quilt into “tofu block” in boot camp to training in freezing winter and scorching summer, hardship is the norm. Yet such temperance weeds out fragility and laziness, forging perseverance, self-discipline and an unyielding will. It turns the slogan “persist” into instinct and lays a solid foundation for tackling challenges in life.
Ouyang Jiabei, Communication Engineering, Class of 2022
The moment I received news of my enlistment, I felt both excited and nervous. Pre-enlistment training has not started yet, but I know putting on the military uniform means bidding farewell to past indiscipline and willfulness. Recently, I have voluntarily adjusted my daily routine, kept early-morning workouts, and kept the principle “obey orders instantly” firmly in mind. Watching the resolute eyes of fellow soldiers in military recruitment promotional videos, I understand better: the army wants not people who merely shout slogans, but warriors who endure hardship and dare to take responsibility. I am mentally prepared — ready for hardship and fatigue. I will follow management, strictly observe disciplines, learn solidarity within the collective, shed childishness through tempering, and strive to enter the military camp with qualified results, living up to the expectations of our motherland and my family!
Tu Caizhan, Civil Engineering, Class of 2022
As a graduate of Shantou University, I bid farewell to campus and choose to join the military with pen in hand. My heart is filled with excitement and reverence. Over four years of university, my alma mater taught me to seek knowledge and truth, and helped me realize that young people should cherish our nation and shoulder the missions of our times. Taking off the bachelor’s gown and putting on camouflage marks not only an identity shift, but also the acceptance of responsibilities. I know the military camp brings tempering and perseverance. In the days ahead, I will lay aside student naivety, obey orders, train diligently, fear no hardship or fatigue, and temper my will and capabilities. I will turn knowledge into commitment and devote my youth to national defense!
Zhou Jian, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Class of 2021
Enlistment calls for sound psychological and military quality, together with firm willingness to serve. Having overcome numerous challenges, I choose to join the military and become a qualified serviceman. I hope to apply my professional knowledge and expertise to practical combat in the army. The road ahead is long and full of challenges. As a Shantou University student, I will bravely face difficulties and grow stronger through trials!
Hu Haoji, Civil Engineering, Class of 2021
Upon graduation, I firmly chose the path of military service. Though I have not yet stepped into the barracks or undergone recruit training, longing and responsibility already weigh heavily on my shoulders. The identity transition from student to prospective soldier makes me clearer that this military uniform carries national peace and youthful missions. I am fully aware that strict disciplines and arduous training await me, and I am ready to embrace challenges and temper my will. Full of enthusiasm and awe, I am ready to grow through sweat after enlistment, honor my pledge with perseverance and live up to this youthful choice of journeying across mountains and seas.
Xu Xiangyue, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Class of 2022
In 2025, I travelled to Jinggangshan in Jiangxi Province to join the Long March Retracing practice activity. Walking along the Long March route in person helped me truly realize that the Long March described in textbooks was far tougher than I had imagined. Our ancestors protected the nation with their youth and lives, bringing us the peaceful life today. As young people in the new era, I also want to be a warrior guarding our motherland just like them. No matter how exhausting the training or how hard the road ahead, I will stay true to my original aspiration, constantly improve myself, join the military and defend our motherland with my own strength!
Wu Yiqian, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Class of 2022
I am an energetic person who dares to strive. Four years of university study equipped me with knowledge and the ability to learn better. I hope in the military I can learn how to become a real man. Whether it is physical training or sentry duty, I will spare no effort. I hope to discover a better version of myself in the barracks.
Huang Junhao, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Class of 2022
Enlisting upon graduation in 2026 is a choice to pursue my ideals. During my university years, professional training cultivated rigorous, pragmatic problem-solving capacity, which I hope to bring into the military. Joining the military with pen in hand, I will live up to my youth. Wearing the military uniform means shouldering responsibilities. I will keep in mind the original aspiration of Shantou University students, apply my knowledge to my post, endure hardship, train diligently and sharpen my skills. Youth consists not only of reading aloud in classrooms, but also the clang of armoured vehicles. I will fulfill my mission with passion, demonstrate youthful responsibility through actions and contribute to national defense.
One departure, glory for a lifetime. The nine undergraduate graduates from the School of Engineering interpret the responsibility and commitment of youth in the new era with practical deeds. They respond to the call of the times with youthful decisions and march toward ideals with firm steps. Moving from campus to military camps, their roles change, yet their sincere devotion to the motherland remains. May they be tempered into steel in the green formation and write their own youthful glory on the grand journey of building a strong military and prosperous nation.
We look forward to more aspiring young people from the School of Engineering following these role models, joining the military with pen in hand and chasing dreams forward. Let youth merge into the mountains and rivers of our motherland and dedicate hard work to this great era!
