About us

The School of Engineering was established in 1985. It comprises the Departments of Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Each department offers undergraduate programs leading to the BEng degree and postgraduate programs leading to the research-based degree of MEng. PhD in tructural Engineering is also offered in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Under the long term and most strong support of Li Ka- Shing Foundation, The School recruits worldwide for faculty who have achieved excellence in their field and are highly respected as both teachers and researchers. These include both established academics(such as Prof. P. Gu, Academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering) and promising younger scholars(such as Prof. J. Koo, a winner of award of Faculty Early Career (CAREER) Development of NSF).

Undergraduate education is taken to be the most important task of the School of Engineering. The EIP-CDIO (Ethics- Integrity- Professionalism— Conceive- Design- Implement- Operate) curricula were developed and carried out in all undergraduate programs. The Curricula were developed based on the CDIO principles proposed by MIT et al and the practical situation of China with special attention to design techniques, laboratory and communication skills. All engineering students will participate at least 5 group design projects for a better understanding of the discipline with an integrate and modern view. Together, these reflect the fundamental facts that the mission of engineering is to produce and synthesize, and the engineering practice must be comparable with economic realities and the social environment.
